I would just like to talk about university studies and how with a small difference one can learn a subject that can save his or her life in the future.
Let’s first speak about the concept of university studies. Say you want to study medicine (the most obvious choice for many students, alongside dentistry, business, law, or languages). There are over 3000 university programmes to feast your eyes on, and that one must think what he or she would want to do with their lives very early in their school studies and never embark on a study major if he or she are not 100% sure that it’s what they want to do for the rest of their lives.
Let’s say that medicine is your choice, and you will be frustrated if you cannot enter the programme. It would be fantastic if you can choose some subjects outside of medicine just because. I mean if you can take some business courses, or law courses, or computer courses, or art courses or one of the thousands of subjects taught at universities around the world, then this would be ideal. Let me tell you why.
Most doctors own their own practices, they will need to know about accounting, banking, human resources, computing, sports and much more. Even they will need to learn some psychology, so they are not blunt when they speak to a patient.
Now a minor can also help us when we finally decide to retire as well, if I had taken a creative writing (for example) then I can write books for children or maybe write my life story.
I am not going to dishearten you, there are millions of places that you can study a minor subject after college (Coursera is one of those places), but you need the time. Believe me, if you can do it during college, it would be fabulous as you are not going to spend your free time after work to learn new subjects. Unless of course you are a workaholic person and want to fill your time with working and studying besides having a family, friends, and colleagues.
Here is a list of some minor programmes to choose from during college:
- Art
- Psychology
- History
- Accounting
- Computing
- Public speaking
- Agriculture
- Arborist
- Creative writing
- Carpentry
- Poetry
- Sports
- Teaching
- Human resources
- Mathematics
- Pilot
This is just a very short list that I can remember, one is not limited to these and can take many more minor subjects during the four years of study.
Happy studying!
